On September 5, Vince Reese will be presenting at the 2019 Annual Saint Louis EEO Training Seminar. He will be discussing, “Workplace Harassment in the #MeToo Era.”
Since the #MeToo era, which brought the topic of sexual harassment in the forefront of public conversations, we have seen a significant increase in harassment charge filings. According to EEOC data, there has been a 13.6% increase of harassment charge filings and a 50% increase of EEOC harassment lawsuits filed in fiscal year 2018 as compared to the previous year. The EEOC Select Taskforce Report on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace, emphasizes a shift in focus from legal compliance to prevention strategies that address inappropriate and uncivil behavior before they rise to the level of unlawfulness. As a result, EEOC recently rolled out a nationwide, in-depth Respectful Workplace Training program offered to organizations to assist in developing strategies that prevent harassment in the workplace by creating a workplace culture of respect and civility. In this session, panelists will discuss where we’ve been, what is being revealed in the #MeToo era, and what should happen next.
